Securing identd

  • Turning off identd can slow some Web transactions, but turning it on can compromise addresses, privacy
  • One solution: Supply uid but not name (option -F%U)
  • Some versions of identd can send encrypted string or random, opaque token (which is logged)
  • GNU identd allows user control of output. This is dangerous; a user can hang blame for mischief on somene else!
